3. What kind of Media Institution Might Distribute Your Media Product and Why?

While researching the project I looked into distributors who had distributed other low budget independent dramas, particularly those with a good knowledge of the 15-24 female market. We wanted a distributor who could distribute our film successfully and target all the different segments of our potential audience as well as understanding the market for a British independent film.

Distributors I researched:
  1. Optimum Releasing/StudioCanal
  2. Sony Pictures Classics
  3. Intadem Film Distributors
  4. Fox Searchlight Pictures
  5. Momentum Pictures
  6. Anchor Bay Entertainment
  7. Focus Features
  8. Revolver
  9. Pathe
  10. NeoClassic Films
  11. Entertainment Film
We narrowed down our choices to Pathe, Revolver or Entertainment Films as each had a history of distributing similar films to ours.

We chose to go with Entertainment Film Distributors because...
However our choice of this distributor would mean that our film would probably have a limited relese.

We also created our own production company, Fruit Bowl Films. It is a:
  • Small British Film Production Company
  • Based in Soho, London
  • Specializes in producing films for a localised British audience that may also have wider appeal
  • Low budget, high quality independent productions
  • Films often exhibited in Arthouse cinemas
  • Specialises in coming of age and period dramas
  • Producing thought provoking films that are driven by art not profit, and provides oppurtunities to up and coming British filmmakers
  • Specializes in producing films for young people aged 16-24
From our research we discovered that British independent films are usually co-productions, so we decided to make 'Turning Pages' one too, indicating this through our titles:
